NDIS funding for SDA homes explained
The National Disability Insurance Scheme is a government-funded initiative, connecting eligible participants with essential services like housing. In line with the NDIS Act 2013, eligible participants are supported with specialist disability accommodation funding to help win back their independence, become involved in their chosen communities and live as comfortably as possible.
To give you a more holistic overview of the journey to independent living, we’ve simplified the process into four simple steps.
1. Determine
your eligibility
If you are already an NDIS participant, you will need to determine whether you are eligible for SDA funding. This typically involves determining whether specialist disability accommodation is a better option for your disability support needs than other supports alone. Once you’re eligible, the NDIA will ask you where you would like to live as well as determine the design category and the building type most suitable for your needs.Â
2. Choose your
SDA provider
Once you’ve been approved for SDA funding in your plan, you then have the freedom to choose who you’d like to be your NDIS registered provider. You’ll then work alongside your SDA provider to customise your forever home in line with your SDA plan and budget. When you’re 100% happy with your forever home plans, you and your provider will need to sign a written service agreement.
3. Time to
settle in
Once the build is complete, it’s time to move in! You will be required to pay the cost of living expenses and rent which is limited to 25% of the Disability Support Pension plus any Commonwealth Rent Assistance, as previously agreed in the service agreement.
